Campus Master Plan Update

In January 2016, we began an 18-month process to update the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Campus Master Plan. The master plan guides our development, renovation, and repurposing of facilities and spaces on campus.

The goal of the Campus Master Plan Update is to create a plan that provides a campus environment that supports our learning, discovery and outreach missions while serving as an example of sustainability and enriching our diverse communities and neighborhoods.

The plan will help to align the ongoing development of physical campus spaces with academic plans and programs. It will provide a series of recommendations focused on enhancing the student experience, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthening campus organization, and improving operational efficiency to position Illinois for a strong future as the pre-eminent public research university.

Who is involved in making the decision of what is the highest and best use of facilities and grounds?

We have a core committee that includes Ted Christy of Facilities and Services, as well as Brian Farber and Lowa Mwilambwe of Student Affairs, Architecture Professor Kevin Hinders, Qu Kim of University Administration, and Associate Provost for Capital Planning Matthew Tomaszewski. Additionally, approval will come from the broad-based Campus Advisory Committee and the Chancellor’s Capital Review Committee. The Campus Facilities Planning Committee will serve in an advisory capacity, as will the Council of Deans, the Chancellor’s Cabinet, the Chancellor’s Design Advisory Committee and the Community Advisory Committee.
